H2H: Alaves vs Leganes – Prediction (La Liga

Deportivo Alavés have been on both ends of some less-than-competitive matches of late, having been involved in just one draw in their last 13 La Liga (LL) fixtures, with nine of the remaining 12 producing a margin of two or more goals. But with their last four home league encounters with Leganés drawn, one trend will be bucked on this occasion. Ten of their last 13 LL points have been collected at home and, with a handy record of: W3, D1, L0, as a favourite at home, Alavés look set to extend that further, having defeated all but one of their five (W4, D1) visiting opponents planted in the bottom half of the table after week 16. Notably, those five aforementioned home games have all been accompanied by cleansheets.

It makes an already tough prospect even more difficult for Leganés, who have been held scoreless in four of their last five LL away trips, failing to support a defence which has kept the home side to three 0-0 half-time results in that time. Their campaign suggests they are unlikely to become the first visiting team to score inside the first half hour at Alavés, having failed to do so in any away trip this LL season, though three of the six opening goals they have conceded on the road this season did fall after the opening hour.

Players to watch: Lucas Pérez (ALA) has scored in five consecutive home starts, whilst Youssef En-Nesyri is one of just three Leganés’ players to find the back of the net on the road.

Stat attack: Referee César Soto Grado has awarded just one red card in his eight 2019/20 LL assignments. Alavés have won the ‘race to five corners’ just once at home this LL season. All but one of Leganés’ last six away LL games have produced fewer than 2.5 total goals, as have all but one of the last five H2H meetings at any venue.
