Alize Cornet (France) vs. Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) – Score prediction (10.10.2019)

The pair met for the first time fourteen months ago in the first round of Cincinnati. Cornet pulled away from being two games within defeat to win 1-6, 7-5, 6-0 in two hours. The match lies on Ostapenko’s racquet as it is getting increasingly difficult to predict the former Grand Slam champion’s matches.

Alize Cornet registers a win at Upper Austria Ladies Linz for the first time since 2009, beating former champion Barbora Strycova, 6-4, 6-4, and consolidating her hold of the Czech to 7-3. She bids her second quarterfinal at this event, with the first one coming when she was an 18-year-old debutante (2008). Cornet is at the risk of posting her worst season finish in eight years. She arrived from Asia after withdrawing from Wuhan and Beijing with a barely positive season main draw win-loss (22-19), which included just two hard-court quarterfinal appearances, at Hobart (SF) and the Bronx Open.

Jelena Ostapenko faced little issues in expelling world no. 130 Tamara Korpatsch and securing her maiden main draw win at Upper Austria in the second attempt. Having struggled on her serve throughout the season, the Latvian threw in just three double faults to beat the German qualifier, 6-1, 6-3. Ostapenko has not shied away from showing flashes of brilliance, having registered three top 20 wins in 2019, including against world no. 2 Pliskova in Beijing. Overall, it still has been a painful season for the 22-year-old, as evident by the 18-27 win-loss and just five instances of successive wins.
