Overview.
If history repeats itself, there will be only one winner here. Barcelona have won all four previous home H2Hs ‘to nil’, and considering they’ve won their opening three La Liga home games this term – albeit with both teams scoring – their favourites tag appears justified. However, Barcelona’s goalless draw at Dortmund on Champions League (CL) matchday one now means they’ve gone two UEFA games without scoring – the last and only time they went three without finding the net was back in 1987/88. So the pressure is on, but the hosts don’t usually crumble – they haven’t lost a CL home game since May 2013 (W29, D3 following).
Internazionale salvaged a draw with a last-gasp goal against Slavia Prague on matchday one, marking their fifth consecutive winless CL match (D3, L2). Yet notably, that draw is sandwiched between a perfect start to the Serie A campaign (W6) – their best since 1966/67 – which has included four wins ‘to nil’, and seen Inter leading at half-time on five occasions. However, the visitors have struggled against Spanish opposition, winning just three of 19 previous away games against Spanish teams (D2, L14). If they are to secure a surprise victory here, expect it to be tight – Inter’s last seven CL away victories (neutral venues excluded) arrived by a single-goal margin.
