Two victories from their last two UEFA Champions League (UCL) fixtures has given Bayer Leverkusen hope of progression. Whilst the Germans must now win this match and hope results go their way elsewhere, the fact they have five wins from their last six competitive matches (D1) will raise morale. Leverkusen netted twice in all five of those recent wins, opening the scoring and leading at half-time in each. At home however, Leverkusen have been leading at half-time in just four of their 11 competitive matches this term, but did win all four.

Juventus’ 3-1 loss to Lazio at the weekend was their first competitive defeat of the season and just the second game they have conceded over 2.5 goals (W1, L1). The ‘Bianconeri’ have conceded in both halves only twice this term, albeit that was in their last two games (D1, L1), and both teams have now scored in seven of their previous eight competitive away fixtures (W5, D2, L1). The visitors clinched Group D’s top spot after beating Atlético Madrid (1-0) last time out. Three of their four wins in the group came via a one-goal margin, and all four victories saw the Italians win at least one half ‘to nil’.

Players to watch: Lucas Alario scored a brace in his last match – three of his five competitive goals for Leverkusen this term arrived in the opening half-hour. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first away goal of the season versus Lazio. Six of his eight competitive goals for Juventus this term came after half-time, including one in the reverse fixture.

Stat attack: Four of the six match goals in Leverkusen’s CL home fixtures were netted before half-time. Five of Juve’s 20 competitive matches this season produced over 3.5 goals, including three of the last four. The home side on the day has scored over 2.5 goals in the last three H2Hs.
