Daniil Medvedev vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas – Prediction (ATP London – 11.11.2019)

Medvedev v Tsitsipas. Preview and players comparison.

Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas reignite their rivalry for the sixth time (and third time this season) in the group stages of ATP World Tour Finals on Monday. The Greek desperately want to get a win against the Russian but wasn’t able to get it so far as Medvedev has thoroughly dominated this matchup by winning all their previous five meetings. Though Medvedev holds a dominant 5-0 lead in the H2H series, there is no doubting Tsitsipas’ ability to win this matchup and expect him to have a fair chance in London this Monday.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been one of the consistent performers against the Big Three players over the last two years but seems to have a mental block against his rival Daniil Medvedev. “I know there’s going to be a time where I’m going to find opportunities and beat [Medvedev]. I don’t know when it’s going to come. Probably two, three, four, five, six years’ time, I don’t know, but it’s going to come at some point,” said Tsitsipas after losing to Medvedev in Shanghai Masters recently.

World #6 Stefanos Tsitsipas added fuel to this rivalry by calling Daniil Medvedev’s game ‘boring’ after their recent meeting in Shanghai Masters a couple of months ago. “I don’t mean to be rude at all, but it’s just boring. It’s boring. It’s so boring that — I don’t know.” Daniil Medvedev responded, saying, “He [Tsitsipas] said my game is boring? For real? Well, I’m not going to argue with him. Everybody has their own style. If someone thinks it’s boring—Ok, not a big deal. We are definitely not friends, nor are we enemies. We are colleagues, that’s it.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas wrapped up his 2018 season by winning the biggest title of his career in the ATP Next Gen Finals, but he will be fighting for a bigger prize in London this time around. He has gone 11/4 on indoor hardcourt so far in 2019, with the best result being a title-winning campaign in Marseille in February. Daniil Medvedev’s nine-match winning streak, as well as the incredible run on the main tour, ended at the hands of Jeremy Chardy in the first round of Paris Masters a couple of weeks ago. The Russian won the first set and created a lot of opportunities in the deciding set but failed to take them, 4-6 6-2 6-4. Nevertheless, world #4 Daniil Medvedev enters the World Tour Finals as one of the title contenders. Medvedev has been the best performer on the main tour in the second half of 2019 as he won three titles in Cincinnati Masters, St.Petersburg, and Shanghai Masters, and finished as the runner-up in the US Open, Washington and Montreal Masters.
