Ekaterina Alexandrova (Rus) vs. Laura Siegemund (Ger) – Score prediction (10.10.2019)

Overview.

Ekaterina Alexandrova made a strong comeback against Kristyna Pliskova, winning a three-set match in 74 minutes. The Russian won 16/19 first-serve points and dispatched seven aces in the last two sets to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. Having played at Linz as a qualifier last year, she returns as the eighth seed.

Alexandrova accelerated her rise through the ranks with her runner-up finish to Camila Giorgi at this tournament in 2018. Then ranked no. 119, she defeated Siniakova and Petkovic en route. She has posted five quarterfinal-or-better results since, including a semifinal at Korea Open just last month. Laura Siegemund nearly paid the price for not converting three consecutive match points for a straight-set victory against Fiona Ferro. The 31-year-old German, who took a medical time-out for right shoulder in the second set, saved two match points in the decider to win 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 in three hours.

Siegemund has spent six and a half hours on court across three matches this week. She started the campaign with close straight-set wins over Juvan and Martincova in the qualifyings. The veteran bids her third-only WTA hard-court quarterfinal, after Luxembourg in 2015 and Hiroshima last month. Siegemund also seeks her first completed top 50 win on concrete since beating Shuai Zhang at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She had a much-needed rest day on Wednesday. However, it is unlikely to improve her odds against the world no. 35. Alexandrova should easily cruise past the qualifier in their first meeting.
