FC Porto vs Feyenoord – Prediction (Europa League – 12.12.2019)

Preview and Teams Comparison.

FC Porto will look to register back-to-back UEFA Europa League (UEL) victories for the first time in eight years since they lifted the trophy (in 2010/11) after defeating Young Boys last time out. A win is a must as all four sides in the group can still qualify, though qualification is in Porto’s hands. Unbeaten in ten competitive games at home (W9, D1), eight of which saw them keep a cleansheet, Porto can also boast a great record at home vs Dutch opposition (W5, D1), with all five victories also coming ‘to nil’. However, since lifting the trophy in 2010/11, Porto’s UEL record stands at: W4, D4, L7.

On the other hand, Feyenoord are winless away from home vs Portuguese opposition (D1, L5) though they did find the net in all but one of those games. Manager Dick Advocaat has faced 201 different sides in his career, yet this will be his first vs Portuguese opponents.
Feyenoord’s European away record leaves much to be desired though, as the Dutch side have just a 8.70% win rate across their last 23 such matches, including qualifiers (W2, D4, L17). The Rotterdammers scored under 1.5 goals in 21 games of the above sequence, and they’ve also failed to score in each of their last three and lost each of their last six European away games, excluding qualifiers.

Players to watch: Porto’s Vincent Aboubakar could become the first African-born player to score in five consecutive UEL appearances since the 2009 rebrand with a goal here. Feyenoord’s Steven Berghuis scored a second-half goal in all three of their competitive away victories this season.

Stat attack: Porto haven’t conceded a second-half goal at home yet this season (any competition). Feyenoord have received a joint UEL-high 16 yellow cards across their group stage games (3.2 per-match on average). Feyenoord lost at both half-time/full-time in both of their away UEL group games.
