Galatasaray vs. Real Madrid – Prediction (22.10.2019)

This is the seventh Champions League meeting between Galatasaray and Real Madrid and the first since the 2013-14 group stage – Los Blancos won both games by an aggregate score of 10-2.

Galatasaray remain without a goal in this season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL), with both matches to date producing under 1.5 goals after a goalless first half. Indeed, seven of their last eight UCL matches have seen at least one team fail to score, while they lost all five games within that sequence where they conceded first. All but the win in that sequence saw Real lose the first half precisely by a 2-0 scoreline, conceding first inside the opening 15 minutes in their last three UCL matches. Casemiro scored Real’s equaliser vs Club Brugge on matchday two. His last four UCL goals have been his side’s second of the day, coming via a header or deflected shot.

Real’s last five UCL away goals have arrived in the second half. However, only one of that quintet was scored beyond the 75th minute. Three of Galatasaray’s last four UCL home matches have seen one half (and the final result) produce an odd number of total goals. As is the case of their opponents’ UCL home games, the first goalscorer has been favoured in Real’s recent UCL away games. The team scoring the opener has won the last five of Real’s road trips in this competition, winning with a clean sheet on four occasions.
