Jannik Sinner vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber – Prediction (22.10.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

While Jannik Sinner has got the form and momentum on his side, Philipp Kohlschreiber likes playing in the high-altitude conditions in Austria (Kitzbuhel and Vienna), which makes it difficult to pick a winner here.

Jannik Sinner enjoyed the best week of his career in Antwerp last week, where he entered the main draw with wildcard and went onto make his maiden semifinal appearance on the main tour, defeating the likes of top seed Gael Monfils and Frances Tiafoe. The talented Italian teenager is granted a wildcard entry into the main draw of ATP Vienna this week, where he will make his debut. This time last year, Sinner competed in an ITF event in Tunisia and reached the quarterfinal. Jannik Sinner has won a whopping 21 matches on indoor hardcourt so far in 2019 at the expense of only five defeats, which includes an 11-match winning streak in February and two title-winning campaigns in Bergamo Challenger and ITF Trento. So far in his young career, Jannik Sinner has made seven main draw appearances in ATP Tour events, and he managed to clear the first round hurdle in five of them — lost to Mikhail Kukushkin in St.Petersburg and Nicolas Jarry in Hertogenbosch.

Philipp Kohlschreiber has been one of the consistent performers in Vienna over the years, but poor form so far in 2019 means he had to fight it out in the qualifying stages of this edition — defeated Sebastian Ofner and Cameron Norrie in the qualifying matches. The veteran German has made five quarterfinal (or better) appearances in Vienna, and his only ever first-round defeat in this tournament came against Lucas Pouille during his recent visit in 2018.
