Kristina Mladenovic (Fra) vs. Donna Vekic (Cro) – Score prediction (10.10.2019)

Coming off first-round losses at Wuhan and Beijing, Donna Vekic wasted no more than 50 minutes to ground Polona Hercog, 6-1, 6-1, making it her quickest win of the season. The Croat, who was 0-3 in the main draw of Linz, got off the mark with a 19/20 first-serve win percentage and facing no breakpoints.

Vekic earned her maiden top 50 year-end ranking last November. She will likely more than half that figure in a few week’s time. The fourth seed aims her eighth quarterfinal of the season with a 7-4 win-loss in round-of-16 matches, with the latest one coming at Corona Park (best Grand Slam result). Quarterfinalist at Linz last year, Kristina Mladenovic wins the eighth installment of her rivalry with Katerina Siniakova, beating the Czech for the fourth time, 6-1, 7-5. She did face some late resistance, getting broken thrice in the second set despite winning the first without facing a breakpoint.

Kristina Mladenovic hasn’t won more than one match in 13 of her last 17 hard-court outings. Regardless, it is certainly a better season for the Frenchwoman than 2018. She is 6-1 in last-16 matches, going as far as the semifinal of Zhengzhou (d. Svitolina, Garcia). Mladenovic won the pair’s first two meetings, at Baku and Madrid back in 2014. Vekic flattened the series with two wins earlier this year in straight sets, at the Australian Open and Nottingham, going on to enter the title round of the latter tournament.
