Montpellier vs. Angers – Prediction (Ligue 1 – 26.10.2019)

Preview and Teams Comparison.

The record between Montpellier and Angers in Ligue 1 in the 21st century is perfectly balanced: three wins for each team and two draws. Angers have lost their last two games in Ligue 1 (0-4 at Paris and 0-1 v Brest), as many as in their first eight this season (W5 D1). SCO have not lost three games in a row in Ligue 1 since May-August 2018 (5). Montpellier have lost only once in their five home games against Angers in Ligue 1 (W3 D1), it was in August 2015 (0-2), in Angers’ first top-flight game in the 21st century.

Montpellier have had an even start to the season (W4, D2, L4), personified by a lack of goals. Eight of those games saw under 2.5 goals, and somewhat poetically, eight of their last ten games won/lost either way have come via a 1-0 scoreline. Montpellier striker Andy Delort (three L1 goals) netted the opener when these two sides last met. Despite suffering defeat in just one of their last 11 L1 home matches (W7, D3), Montpellier often do it the hard way. Significantly, only three of their last 13 here have seen them register a clean sheet. Encouragingly, however, they will be hoping to complete a run of five straight L1 home wins for the time since 2012/13.

Montpellier have failed to score in just two of their last 22 home L1 games. The opener has been scored within 20 minutes in each of the last four L1 H2Hs at Stade de la Mosson. Six of Angers’ last seven L1 away games drawn/lost have seen them concede first inside the opening 15 minutes.

Visitors Angers come into this one having lost four of their last five road trips in the league (W1, L4). Unsurprisingly, they possess the L1 away table’s worst defensive record, after conceding an average of 3.0 goals per away game to date. Angers’ top league scorer Rachid Alioui has scored each of his four league goals after the hour mark. In addition, the visitors have conceded first, and done so in the first half, in four of their last five L1 road trips. However, if they are to return to winning ways here, it could be with a clean sheet, as ‘Les Scoïstes’ have kept one in four of their last five away victories in the top-flight.
