After failing in the qualifying stages of Paris Masters during his first two visits in 2016 and 2017, Nikoloz Basilashvili earned himself a direct entry into the main draw here in 2018 and managed to clear the first-round hurdle by defeating John Millman (6-4, retired). The top-ranked Georgian made his top 20 debut earlier this year but exited the group a few weeks ago after failing to defend the title in an ATP 500 series event in Beijing. Nevertheless, this has been yet another successful season for Basilashvili as he defended the Hamburg title and bagged around 30 wins in these ten months. Nikoloz Basilashvili has gone 2/4 on indoor hardcourts so far in 2019, and two of his four campaigns on the surface this year have ended in the first round — lost to Fernando Verdasco in the first round of ATP Vienna last week.

Radu Albot pushed Roger Federer to three sets in Miami earlier this year but could win only three games against the Swiss in the second round of ATP Basel last week, 0-6 3-6. This was the first time he got bageled since the French Open 2018. World #49 Radu Albot, who is enjoying his career-best season so far in 2019, will make his main draw debut in Paris Masters this week. His previous two appearances here in 2015 and 2016 ended in the qualifying stages. Radu Albot lifted the maiden ATP Tour title of his career in Delray Beach earlier this year and made it to the semifinal in Los Cabos recently, but he is far from his best at the moment and has won only one of his previous five matches on tour.
