Novak Djokovic vs. Matteo Berrettini – Prediction (ATP London – 10.11.2019)

Preview and players comparison.

Novak Djokovic enters the ATP World Tour Finals after winning his 34th Masters title in Paris a couple of weeks ago. The Serbian suffered a disappointing straight-set defeat against Karen Khachanov in the finals of Paris Masters last year but made amends by winning the title without dropping a set this year. Despite winning the title in Paris Masters, Novak Djokovic lost his position at the top of ATP World Rankings to Rafael Nadal. However, Djokovic can still finish the season as world #1 as the race for year-end #1 resumes in London this week.

Novak Djokovic did exceptionally well in Paris to take the race for year-end #1 to London, and he will now have to reach the finals undefeated as losing even one round-robin match this week would make things a lot easier for Rafael Nadal. Prior to 2019, four times Novak Djokovic had lifted the Paris Masters title, and he backed it up by winning the ATP World Tour Finals on three of those occasions — in 2013, 2014 and 2015. While Novak Djokovic is a five-time champion of ATP World Tour Finals, Matteo Berrettini will make his debut in London this Sunday. A couple of semifinal appearances in the US Open and Shanghai Masters coupled with favorable results in Paris helped Berrettini qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals.

“I think we all love tennis; we all love playing and care about performing well. Making a history of this sport is a huge privilege and huge motivation, I’m happy to be in the position to fight for another great achievement,” Novak Djokovic on fighting for joint record 6-year-end #1.

Matteo Berrettini recently became only the second Italian to break into the top 10 of ATP World Rankings since the 1970s, and he has now become the first Italian to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals since Corrado Barazzutti in 1978. “It’s going to be a huge, huge experience, a huge moment for me for my career. But like I did the previous years, I’m really looking forward to learn something, [I am going] to put a lot of effort [like I did] to put myself in this situation,” said Berrettini. World #8 Matteo Berrettini, with a strong serving performance, can keep things close and force tiebreakers, but this is a comfortable matchup for Novak Djokovic, and he should be able to get the win without many troubles.
