H2H: Sampdoria vs. Atalanta – Prediction (Serie A

Sampdoria lifted themselves off the bottom of the Serie A (SA) table with a 1-0 win last time out, which not only continued a low-scoring trend that has seen four of their last five league games produce under 2.5 goals, but also means their last five top-flight victories have come ‘to nil’. Gianluca Caprari came off the bench to score Sampdoria’s winner last time out – his last four SA goals were netted after the 85th minute. However with a win-rate of just 25% as a home outsider this SA season (W1, D1, L2), another victory looks unlikely here. The fact that Sampdoria are yet to score a first-half goal in any SA fixture this term will also worry home fans, especially as they take on an Atalanta side that’s netted an impressive average of 1.5 first-half goals per away league game.

Atalanta’s top SA scorer this term, Luis Muriel, has scored four of his eight league goals in the final half-hour. On the road, Atalanta are unbeaten this league campaign (W4, D2), with three of their wins seeing them score first. Yet whilst Atalanta last lost a SA away game back in February, they’ve registered just two clean sheets in the 12 road trips since, with both teams scoring in ten of those fixtures.
