Shuai Peng (Chn) vs. Dayana Yastremska (Ukr) – Score prediction (10.10.2019)

Overview.

Yastremska met Peng for the first time during her title run at Hua Hin in January. She fended off 4/4 breakpoints and won 83% behind her first serve to win the second-round match, 6-4, 6-1, in 73 minutes. The teenager, with her 5-2 career record against Chinese players, should be able to replicate that result.

Two days after her Beijing doubles runner-up finish, Dayana Yastremska kickstarts her third consecutive campaign in this country. The third seed, making her Tianjin debut and defending Hong Kong title points this week, didn’t drop more than one service game during her 67-minute victory over Lin Zhu, 6-2, 6-3. Yastremska started in Asia with no quarterfinal appearance since winning her third career title at Strasbourg in May. She cruised into her maiden Premier-level one at Wuhan, en route also registering her maiden top 10 win over Karolina Pliskova. Ranked no. 102 this time last year, the 19-year-old has risen to no. 23.

Shuai Peng got a harder bargain than she expected from the world no. 225 Xiaodi Gao. She was broken five times by the qualifier in 101 minutes but rallied from a 3-5 second-set deficit to win 6-2, 7-6. The 33-year-old has enjoyed enormous success at Tianjin, being the 2016 champion and semifinalist in 2014 and 2017. Peng started the season with a 1-9 win-loss in the first seven months and a half, owing to her knee surgery in February. The former world no. 14 returned to winning ways with a second-round finish at the US Open (as a qualifier) and a final-four finish at Nanchang, her first WTA semifinal appearance since 2017.
