Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Alexander Zverev – Prediction (ATP London – 13.11.2019)

Tsitsipas (Gre) – Zverev (Ger). Preview and players comparison.

Stefanos Tsitsipas must be feeling a lot better now as he finally managed to end his disappointing five-match losing streak against rival Daniil Medvedev. It was a perfect performance from the Greek as he won around 90% of his first-serve points and did not face a breakpoint on his serve in the entire match, 7-6 6-4. Stefanos Tsitsipas opened up a 3-1 lead in the H2H series by winning both of his matches against the German in 2019 — at Madrid Masters and Beijing. Though Zverev is very much capable of winning this matchup, solid record in the H2H series and strong showing throughout the course of the season makes Tsitsipas the slight favorite here.

“It was actually even better than I dreamt of it. I felt very relaxed today. I don’t know why. Just the importance of me standing on this court just relaxes me, for some reason. I feel really comfortable, and I felt like I had nothing to be afraid of. Just being on that court is already a big excitement, a big joy. It’s something that I dreamt always, and it does feel very special,” said Stefanos Tsitsipas after beating Daniil Medvedev.

The Greek youngster will now face yet another rival in Alexander Zverev on Wednesday. Unlike against Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas has always had an upper-hand against the German by winning three of their previous four meetings with the recent such match coming in the semifinal of ATP Beijing. The relationship between these two Next Gen stars seems to have improved a lot since they teamed up for Team Europe in the recently concluded Laver Cup. “He’s my Laver Cup teammate. We got a little closer at the Laver Cup, so we understand each other very well now,” said Zverev in the buildup to their previous meeting in Beijing. Stefanos Tsitsipas, who finished his 2018 season by winning the biggest title of his career in the ATP Next Gen Finals, has got a chance of securing his place in the semifinal of ATP World Tour Finals with a win against Alexander Zverev on Wednesday.

“[They were] both fantastic matches. Especially I think in Beijing it was very, very close and could have gone both ways, even though it was two sets. “It’s going to be interesting. He [Tsitsipas] played a fantastic match [against Medvedev], I thought, especially for the first time playing here. It’s never easy. I’m looking forward to it,” said Zverev, ahead of the important clash against the Greek.

Alexander Zverev produced one of his best performances of the season to blow away world #1 Rafael Nadal in his previous round-robin match earlier this week, 6-2 6-4. Zverev won at least 60 matches in each of the last two seasons but has won only 46 so far in this underwhelming 2019 season. The win against Rafael Nadal was only the top-ranked German’s second top 10 win of the season (2-5). However, he has won five of his last six matches in the ATP World Tour Finals, which have come against top 10 players. World #7 Alexander Zverev suffered a group stage exit from the ATP World Tour Finals during his debut campaign back in 2017 but won the biggest title of his career here in 2018, defeating Roger Federer in the semifinal and Novak Djokovic in the final.
