H2H: Valladolid vs. Mallorca – Prediction (La Liga

Real Valladolid have won just two of their last 13 LaLiga games against Mallorca (W2 D1 L10), however both wins came at home (3-0 in November 2008 and 3-1 in January 2013).

Real Valladolid go into the round as one of seven clubs still unbeaten at home, but will be keen to improve upon a 33.33% win-rate as a La Liga (LL) home favourite (W1, D2) – a number that’s eerily similar to their win-rate as a home favourite in 2018/19 (36.36%, W4, D2, L5). Yet to defeat any team in the top half of the table (D5, L3), Valladolid will appreciate the visit of lowly Mallorca, against whom they have enjoyed four victories from six home meetings this decade in all competitions (L2). Valladolid’s Míchel scored against Mallorca in 2016/17, and kicked-off the 2019/20 season with a goal against Espanyol in September. Meanwhile Ante Budimir has been responsible for Mallorca’s only two away goals this LL season.

Each of the six competitive H2Hs hosted by Valladolid this decade have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals. Referee David Medié Jiménez’s 22 yellow cards across five LL assignments is amongst the fewest in the league. Mallorca are yet to score an equaliser this LL season.

After experiencing their first HT/FT loss this LL season in midweek, Valladolid are now one of seven teams to be both unbeaten when scoring first (W3, D2) and winless when going behind (D2, L3) ahead of the round. The latter is a feeling Mallorca know well, after losing all six LL games that they’ve conceded the opening goal – four with half-time deficits. The visitors have lost ‘to nil’ in three of their four away trips, with three of four also producing a two-goal losing margin thanks in part to Mallorca failing to score before half-time on the road. Fitness and focus have both been lacking: Mallorca lament a combined goal difference of -6 across the final 15 minutes (plus stoppage time) of each half home and away.
